Reading Borough Council is undertaking a partial update of its Local Plan. A review of the current Local Plan takes into account changes such as national policy changes.
The Government imposed a 35% uplift on housing numbers on twenty urban authorities in 2021, including Reading.
The Council has calculated that 883 new homes are needed per year to meet government targets against 699 homes per year in the Local Plan.
To deliver these new homes, the Council recently undertook a ‘Call for Sites’ to consider new sites for housing, with this also identifying opportunities for better use of existing sites and permissions.
As a brownfield, sustainable site, the new proposals can better deliver on the Council’s aspirations.
